Aston Villa attacker Anwar El Ghazi has said that the recent form from the west Midlands side should present fear among other sides in the Championship. The Villains appeared on course to miss out on the top six after a winless run last month but they have managed to revive their fortunes with four-straight victories including a 3-0 rout of Middlesbrough last weekend.
He told: “When we have the fans behind us at Villa Park, the opposition are going to be scared of us. As you see, everybody is scared of us if we play at Villa Park now. The fans are amazing, and we need the support until the end of the season. There’s a good atmosphere among the team and in training – you can really feel it at the moment. We’ve had our not so good period now and come through it. With Jack [Grealish] back, it’s been better. We’ll also be getting Axel [Tuanzebe] back soon. I think we have such a strong team and we just have to take it game to game.”
With a run of four successive wins, the west Midlands outfit have jumped to the sixth position in the standings, though Derby County and Bristol City have games in hand through which they can leapfrog them. Still, Dean Smith’s side have the momentum on their side with a perfect month of March and such form should bring concern for Derby and Bristol, who are winless in the past two league games. Elsewhere, seventh-placed Preston North End are just goal difference behind Aston Villa with a three-match winning streak, and they are another team, who should provide competition for the playoff push.
