RICHARDS NEARS VILLA COMEBACK

Former England international, Micah Richards is on the verge of making a return to the Aston Villa first team, having been sidelined for almost two years.

Richards has not made a single appearance for The Lions since October 2016 and had been placed on a special training regime to help ease his return to the side and improve his fitness after a persistent knee injury.

Richards will move to Sunderland unlikely

The 28 year old English defender of Aston Villa, Micah Richards has consistently been linked with Sunderland as the Premier League club was believed to be interested in reinforcing their defensive department after having conceded 69 goals in 38 matches during the 2015-16 season of the Premier League.

Sunderland just barely managed to avoid the bottom relegation zone during that season of the top tier English League and David Moyes wants to avoid going through another season where they just barely manage to scrap above the relegation spots.

RICHARDS MOVING ON

Manchester City have been dealt a blow with the news that defender Micah Richards will not be extending his contract, which could lead to the player being sold in the summer. The 25-year-old came through the ranks at City and he has been one of the established players at the club.

However, the form of Pablo Zabaleta has not allowed Richards to even get a look in into the City first-team. Even when Zabaleta has been unavailable, Richards has been unlucky to miss out on the first-team chances due to injury.

TOUGH SEASON FOR RICHARDS

Manchester City’s Micah Richards has been enduring a few tough season which have been plagued with injuries which is one of the main reasons on why he has only been able to make 8 appearances for Roberto Mancini during the previous season and this current campaign is not going any better as he only made 9 appearances in all competitions for Manchester City.

The 25 year old English defender has an unclear future as his lack of playing time could be a good reason for him to want to leave Manchester City and he has already expressed his desire on getting more time on the playing ground.

Richards Backs Joleon Lescott

Manchester City full back Micah Richards has backed Joleon Lescott after he was repeatedly omitted from the starting lineup by the City manager Manuel Pellegrini. Lescott has only played in eight matches out of the 24 matches which City have played so far in the Premier League and he was also left out in the clash against Chelsea where the home team lost to Chelsea by a goal to nil. Trinity Mirror has indicated that the winning percentage of Manchester City has been much higher when Lescott has featured in the playing eleven than when he has been sidelined.

100 CLUB

The Manchester City fans would certainly not have forgotten those 7 months in 2007 when their team hadn’t managed to find the net even a single time at home.

After beating Everton by a close margin of 2-1 on 1st January, City couldn’t win a home match in the remaining part of that season. It was not a memorable season for the Sky Blues by any means.

City’s squad has almost changed completely since then. But, one guy is still there. It’s Micah Richards who is in his 9th year at Etihad now.

RICHARDS MAY LEAVE

Manchester City’s Micah Richards has said that he may have to leave the club at the end of the season in order to benefit his international career. The England international has been playing second fiddle to Pablo Zabaleta since the Argentine established himself as the number one right back in the country.

Richards has often been used as a backup by manager Manuel Pellegrini. His contract runs out in a short time. Even though he stated recently that he would like to extend his contract with the club, where he made his debut as a professional, his current plight means that he may have to search elsewhere for first-team opportunities.

SHINING FOR THE ACADEMY

Micah Richards is one of the few players in the Manchester city team to have come through from the academy.

Several of the players who had come through along with him have left the club due to intense pressure from expensive signings. The same fate could befall Richards since he is finding very little first-team football due to the form of Pablo Zabaleta.

Richards is the longest serving player at the club, but he has been widely linked with a move in the January transfer window in order to improve his chances of playing for the England national team at World Cup 2014.

POOR AWAY RUN

Manchester City have been extremely poor away from home this season. They were beaten 3-2 by the likes of Cardiff and Aston Villa in the Premier league, but they managed to find a winning form in the 3-1 win over West Ham last weekend.

This victory was extremely crucial for Manuel Pellegrini because they have to take advantage of Manchester United’s dropped points. Their arch rivals could only manage a 1-1 draw with Southampton at home. After managing to hold out United for long periods of the match, Southampton struck with a late equaliser.

MORE CHANCES

Manchester City defender Micah Richards is expected to get more first-team opportunities after the arrival of new manager Manuel Pellegrini. He was not exactly a favourite of former manager Roberto Mancini.

The club failed to win any major trophy last season, while they have lifted only the Premier league and FA Cup in the last two years. As a result, many see the time of Mancini at Manchester City as a mediocre success because he spent a huge amount of money on players. Pellegrini has also brought in four players in different areas of the pitch for a combined outlay of £ 90 million.
